Buy Canadian! That’s what many of our friends and family members are doing right now. It’s also what the governments of Canada and B.C. are pushing.

So it’s not surprising that when a recent poll (we helped create) asked Canadians how they feel about American companies taking greater control over our natural resources, the majority said: no thanks!

83 per cent of British Columbians are opposed to American companies taking greater control of natural resource projects in Canada — including 76 per cent who are “strongly opposed.”

Outside of B.C., opposition remained strong, with 70 per cent of Canadians strongly opposed to expanded American interest in the sector.

Like so many oil and gas operations in Canada, the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission line project is co-owned by an American company. In this case, it’s Houston-based Western LNG, propped up by an “anchor investment” of $150 million from Blackstone Inc., a trillion dollar Wall Street private equity firm.

Fun fact! Blackstone’s CEO Steve Schwartzman contributed $39 million to the 2024 Trump election campaign, and has been informally advising the president since his first term in 2016.

When asked about PRGT specifically, 53 per cent of Canadians opposed the project. In fact, in every province surveyed, more respondents opposed the project than backed it.

Safe to say, fast-tracking a pipeline backed by a Republican mega donor in an era of nationwide Trump loathing is the opposite of what Canadians want.

Minister Tamara Davidson holds the power to decide whether PRGT is allowed to move ahead, American investors and all.

Tell her to say NO.

A handful of Metro Vancouver board members are attempting to ditch climate action.

They claim Metro Van’s budget is too big, and that climate measures go beyond their organization’s “scope”.

If you live in Metro Vancouver, please speak up! Send a message to Metro Van to keep their climate plan in place. Their meeting is Friday, February 21.

On March 4, Premier David Eby will be presenting this year’s budget. It's the perfect time to call on him to defund and disband the Critical Response Unit, formerly known as the Community-Industry Response Group.

C-IRG is known for their violent policing of land defenders opposing the Coastal Gaslink pipeline, Trans Mountain and logging in Fairy Creek. There are better ways to keep people and communities safe without the aggression of militarized police. Send a message now saying you want the new B.C. Cabinet to defund and disband the CRU/C-IRG.
