B.C. politicians are still getting it wrong.

In the face of Trump’s tariffs, and threats to our energy security and economic freedom, Premier David Eby and B.C.’s Minister of Energy and Climate, Adrian Dix, want to dig us into an even deeper fracked gas hole: expanding or rushing American-funded “natural gas” projects.

“We have to respond… meaning we’ve got to defend ourselves and take action,” said Dix.

Yes, that sounds good.

“We’ve got to drive economic development…”

Yes, yes. Right you are.

“and that means fewer impediments to…development.”

Gah!

Dix sounded like a gas-bot after meeting with his Albertan counterpart about reducing red tape around resource extraction, and how our two provinces can work together to get projects done.

A major Wall Street investment firm and a billionaire buddy of Donald Trump are just two examples of the American investors putting money into B.C.’s LNG industry. When Canadian politicians talk about EXPANDING gas operations in Canada, they're talking about making Americans rich.

Everyone maple leaf-loving, hockey-watching Canadian should be yelling ‘NO!’ to this.

The solution to our current problem is not to sell off our future and autonomy to Americans. And it is not to get further into the mud with Alberta’s fossil fuel industry. Canada has been, and will remain, America’s unofficial colony until we bravely forge our own path.

And that path must be powered by independent, sustainable renewable energy.

Fossil fuels have had their time. Oil and gas has made a lot of crappy people rich. And burning the stuff is killing the planet, and your friends, neighbours and family members along with it.

Under Trump, fossil fuels are America’s future. Don’t let them be ours.

Premier David Eby is presenting B.C.'s budget on March 4. Call on him to defund and disband the Critical Response Unit, formerly known as the Community-Industry Response Group.

C-IRG has used overly-aggressive tactics to stop or arrest land defenders opposed to the Coastal Gaslink pipeline, Trans Mountain and logging in Fairy Creek. Deploying militarized police is not the solution to keeping people and communities safe. Send a message now saying you want the new B.C. Cabinet to defund and disband the CRU/C-IRG.
